Can you tell me about any prison gangs you had to deal with and their identities like Mexican or neo nazi?
We had many. We had white gangs (skin heads, peckerwoods, Neo Nazi, Odenists, severely violent criminals or SVC, an Idaho prison gang of mostly whites that were not white supremists. We also had Aryan Brotherhood, Nazi lowriders, and KKK). All have a different set of rules and ethics which separate or distinguish one group from another. We also had blacks (Bloods, Crips, Black Guerrilla Family, Gangster Disciples). Mexican (Mexican Mafia, MS-13, Sureno, and Norteno with the ~ over the little n). Native American (Native Mob, or Native Pride). If these are not in the prison they are in, they will often join other gangs. Then there are biker gangs. Bells Angels, Monguls, in Idaho Brother Speed. And Bandidos. Most of the time they are groups for protection. But they do try and run business. Drugs, tobacco, and prostitution. Yes, prostitution, men pimping other men.
Okay and how often were there fights between the gangs? How successful are the gang leaders in prison at leading the rest of the gang who isn't locked up? Also, how do the prisoners get a hold of drugs and tobacco and do they use them to pay for sex?
In Idaho, fights weren't that common at ISCI, and most 95 percent, we're between Nortenos and Surenos. In idaho, there isn't a big connection with the outside gangs. But the leaders inside are pretty successful at running there gangs. They also have councils. These councils will carry out the orders of the leaders. The councils consist of the leader, president, heavy, enforcer, shot caller, secretary, treasurer, and soldiers.
As for drugs and sex. Drugs are often times mule in from outsiders, girl friends, relatives, attorneys , etc. Some is passed off from mouth to mouth, swallowed and pooped out later, those packages are wrapped in plastic wrap, or water balloons, or condoms. Sometimes they are transfered from institution to institution via work crews. Someone might drop off the contraband outside, and an outside worker picks it up and passes it on. Very rarely it is sometimes mailed in, and sometimes made in the institution. Some inmates will sell there meds, and inmates have figured out which ones will get you high if crushed up and snorted. A lot of times the drugs inside are pain killers. Both sex and drugs are used for payment. Each one for the other.
